Campagnolo Discovers Electricity

April 7th, 2005 by Tim Grahl

Campagnolo is working on electronic shifting components. They recently took it on the 202km course in Belgium at the 60th annual Dwars door Vlaanderen race to test them out. It’ll be interesting to see where this leads in the future.

As cool as that is, I can’t help make a comment, “how lazy can people be?” Next they will come up with a gas powered crankset…

Gas powered crankset, you say? Try “mo-ped”. Been there, done that! Anywho!- this has been going through multiple proto types for several years now. I don’t expect to see an electronic shift system, like this, for sale anytime soon. I do think there will be several things adapted from this technology from a materials usage standpoint, though.

I’ve had my share of Mo=Peds. Back in HS (93) I used to buy them beat up, restore and resell. I had one in particular, Puch Maxi, that I rebuilt the motor, ported the intake, and made a 1 inch custom exhaust for it. Stock the topped off at 30mph, my modded moped went about 40mph on flat roads.
    Man, I love mopeds…

There is a reason they call it “Cramp-N-Go-Slow” Down with Italian components and Up with fine Shimano and SRAM components.

    :-)

This is kind of old news (no offense). Mavi Zap was around in the mid to late 90’s and never worked. Campy may have better luck, but one blown shift in a field sprint should kill it.

    Err, that should be “Mavic.”
