My $80 Mountain Bike Ride

I came across this brain fart from DirtRag’s website.

Last Sunday’s mountain bike ride cost me $80 in cold hard cash. No, I didn’t buy a lift ticket and rent a DH bike. Nor did I destroy $80 worth of equipment…hopefully. No, I just passed up the opportunity to do an honest day’s work for my landlord—which is dutifully paid for in cold hard cash.

And it’s easy money, to be quite honest. I’ve always been pretty handy with a paintbrush, and I learn quick so I’m good at things like installing electrical fixtures, doorknobs, etc. Plus, learning is really what it’s all about for me. Don’t get me wrong, a little “hand money” is nice, but the Rag pays the bills. Where I really benefit is by learning how to tile and grout, how to make wooden molding look seamless, and so on. Perhaps someday I’ll save thousands of dollars remodeling a home of my own, but in the meantime I get to practice on someone else’s apartment. And they’re cool with that, so everyone wins.
