Things are starting to look up for mountain bikers.

Opportunities for off-road cycling abound in Wyoming’s mountains. From the Gros Ventre to Pole Mountain, and the Uintas to the Black Hills, the Cowboy State’s trail systems offer some of the best mountain biking in the Rocky Mountain region.

The snows of winter, however, are an annual interruption, so the advent of spring has Wyoming’s cyclists anxious to start heading for the high country.

John Mackey, of the Sundance Chain Gang Mountain Bike Club, said trails in the Black Hills, for example, had been looking good until recent snows.

“We have watched some of our local trails and they are starting to thaw out to the point we can ride some of them,” Mackey said.
