All That and an Ice Tray
March 9th, 2005 by Tim GrahlPeformance bike now has 350 things on sale. Nothing huge jumped out at me, but there looked to be some pretty good deals. I saw some 2003 and 2004 model helmets at a significant discount. The Tour de France DVD is 25% off. Nevermind, I forgot that the Blue Collar readers actually HAVE lives. Other then that you are looking at some standard deals that they offer, there just happens to be a lot of them.
One product I found that I had never seen before was the BikeIce Tray. It’s an ice tray that makes long, round bars of ice that fit perfectly in a hydration pack’s reservoir. For those of you that have tried putting ice in your packs before, you realize quickly it doesn’t help much cause all the ice floats at the top and you are pulling water from the bottom. Anyway, it’s going for $10. Pretty cool

UPDATE: Guitar Ted gave a heads up about what Jeff Kerkove rides with to keep his liquid cool for up to 5 hours. It’s a company called Polar Design and they have a jack load of different packs and accessories.

Check out Polar Packs, (I think that’s the name) Jeff’s sponsor for hydration packs. He got one last year and it has one of those “gel” packs you freeze in the fridge. Place that ‘lil sucker in the pack, and Jeff say’s it’ll keep stuff cool for around 5 hours. Also good for keeping stuff hot. Now if they could just figure out a way to get ramen noodles through a bite valve!
Yeah, the PolarPak line kicks ass! I had never heard of them before, until last year, but now I am in love with their product. As Guitar Ted said….it will keep your water hot or cold for 5 hours or more. It’s insane! They are now available at most local bike shops through J&B Importers. I have used Camelbak and Hydrapack in the past, and the polar pack is the same quality as the other 2, but it keeps liquid at a set temp for a longer period of time.
Here is to cold…or hot liquids. Cheers!
