Monday Night Ride

March 8th, 2005 by Mike

I left work at 4 PM yesterday and headed to the trail for a little after work mountain biking. I went to Blackwater Creek Trail because we have had quite a bit of rain and it usually stays fairly dry. Blackwater Creek has a something for everybody. There are hiking trails, a paved trail that stretches about 6.5 miles, and nice biking trails for the beginner all the way up to the expert.

I had the Raleigh M80 with me yesterday and she did great. I entered the singletrack about two miles down the paved trail and started backtracking toward where I started. If I had to characterize Blackwater Creek I would say that it is a sandy singletrack with occasional hills and roots. Nothing too terribly hard but enough to make your legs burn. There was one portion of the trail last year that kicked my but the first few times I made it out. “The Hill” is steep and misleading. When you think you are at the top, you are only about half way up. I would look up and see what I thought was the trail flattening out, well it wasn’t, it was just turning a bend and continuing upwards. Anyway last year I had all kinds of trouble but yesterday I climbed that thing like a … well not a pro… but I did surprise myself. The trail had splotches of mud but nothing terrible. I was out for a little over an hour and had a great time. I love it that Spring is just around the corner.

Here is a map of the Blackwater Creek Trail.
