This is an example of the WRONG way
February 14th, 2005 by Tim GrahlI was reading the Dirt Rag News today and there was an article about a protest at the Chicago Auto Show put on by Chicago Critical Mass. While I am all for switching cars out for bikes, I think this is a stupid way to go about it. Here are two excerpts from the article:
The festivities also included a levitation and exorcism by a pastor from the Church of Christ Without Cars, and an oversized puppet parade depicting “car industry titans”.
“We are taking our bikes to the car show to introduce people to the joy of the bicycle,” said Michael Burton, one of the protest’s organizers. “If we can convert just one person from a car to a bike-centered lifestyle, we are successful.”
I find it hard to believe that having a nutso pastor levitating and exorcising car demons is going to do anything but scare people. If you want to get someone to switch from four wheels to two, try explaining the enviromental and health benefits. Don’t try to scare them into it… you will just come across looking like an idiot.

Looking like an idiot, or, most likely, just pissing someone off! ” look at those bastard cyclists! What a bunch of losers!” Yeah, I can see it now. Thanks Chicago!
