I think I bought my Trek 4500 back in 2001. Shortly after I owned it I had to upgrade the "crankshaft?" because it was slipping when I would stand up and give it some real power. Since then it has worked perfectly. it is now 10 years later and I finally feel like I need to bring it in for some TLC. I'm looking to start going on long bicycle camping tours and am hoping this bike can be modified to accomodate all of the gear I want to load onto it. I haven't seen anything that makes me think it won't.

Its beauty still remains. I could tell that these tubes are really durable and convenient to use. I have one back at home.

Best bike I've ever owned. I found mine on Craigslist for just $100. Bike had been neglected for a while (flat tires, rusted chain and cables etc..) Luckily I took it home, pumped up the tires and it worked like a charm. I finally ended up changing the chain (10 bucks from Walmart plus the chain tool $4 ) and it's been working perfectly ever since. This bike hauls butt, is quiet and really comfortable. Spend a little more and get a Trek. You won't be disappointed.

I just bought my 2009 4500 women's model. I am a former road bike fanatic, in my younger years, doing back to back centuries on weekends etc. This was years ago, but never forgotten. I have tried out several mountain bikes and gave them away. I couldn't get used to handling a semi after riding the wind on a ferrari. My first ride on this bike was what I have been looking for ever since my retirement from road biking. Finally, a bike that is responsive and moves with me as I move not against me. I felt safe and secure and fully under control. I am ready to hit the bike trails here in the UP of Michigan. Great bike no longer any regrets.

so mine may not be the same year but I bought my 4500 back in late 99 early 2000. i love the bike, i have stupid jumps and snapped rims frame is still flawless, warped the crank but what can i expect. mine originally came with shimano 8sis brake/drivetrain but has recieved upgrade to SRAM x.7/x.9 drivetrain, avid v-brakes, and a truvative crank sportin some mavic 148 rims on shimano lx hubs. years and years of heavy riding and its still a beast. i wouldnt even give it up for a cannondale

I bought my 4500 in the middle of 2004. And with just 14 miles on it, it has aged nicely in my garage.

Thanks for the reviews. I pick up my used one tomorrow for a buck and a half, so it sounds like I am buying a good bike at a great price.

thanks

I bought my Trek 4500 Coor's Light Logo model at a garage sale. It looked as though someone just brought it out of the showroom and marked it down for a quick sale. Except for one paint smear and a scratch on the seat it was like new. Anyway for $150 I could not complain. I have a Coor's light hat to match. Now where is that trail? Thanks for the other comments about how good the bike is.
