Raleigh M80 Round One
February 9th, 2005 by CarlI took out the Raleigh M80 for an hour or so today. It was a great ride, although I must admit: I’m way out of shape.
There was a time last year that I would ride 10 or 12 miles at Peak’s View Park with no problems, but today I barely cranked out 4.
All that aside, I have to say that riding clipless is great (again). The trails were extremely muddy today due to the fact that they are finally thawing, and I worked my tail off. The Raleigh offered a totally unique experience from what I’m used to on my Trek 4500 though, and it was quite a bit of fun.
My first impression is that this is a very solid bike. It will need a tune up (since its brand new) but other than that I’m pretty impressed. The bike feels like a tank when rolling over logs and obstacles but manages to still perform with relative agility.
I’ll post a more detailed review in a few weeks after I can put a few more rides under my belt. Until then, adios!

Hey Carl, I think any new bike will feel awkward. When I first got my Warp it felt like a tank. I was riding a hard tail and the transition phase to my FS is taking some time. I felt quicker and could manuever more with my HT. But now, geez, I feel like a slug!
I used to be able to hit 31mph on a DH in one of our trails. But the last time I tried it with my FS, I was only able to get 27mph.
Anyhow, it will take some getting used to. But if it makes you feel any better, your M80 is schweet!
