What Would You Do for a Klondike?

January 31st, 2005 by Tim Grahl

We got a good icing Saturday night so on Sunday I took out the GT with the Kenda Klondike K1013 snow tires on them. I could immediately feel the difference in traction. Where I was spinning out and slipping while riding the Karmas, I was holding in the turns and getting more power while pedaling. A few times I took some quick turns while tapping the rear brakes to see how much they would slide out from underneath me and they held ever time. I ended up putting a foot down and almost biting it on the other tires.

The biggest downfall is the increased roll resistance. With the wider tires and 252 Carbide tips, it really slows you down. However the increased traction makes all the difference on your work load while climbing the hills. Basically I felt a lot more connection with the ground with the Klondikes.

Rolling resistence, I hear ya’! Those studded tires give you that extra burn in the legs. By the way, you must own at least half of the galaxy’s Dirt Rag stickers! Cool!!!
