Chris and Hannah Perform with Bikeskills at Super Bowl Celebration
The stage is set. The two best teams in football clash in the jewel of American sport, the Super Bowl. As America focuses on Jacksonville for an epic sporting battle, two athletes of a different sort take center stage to teach people about the value of lifelong athletics.
Fisher athletes Chris Duncan and Hannah Steffens will represent Bikeskills performing at Super Bowl pregame festivities. The Shands Super 5k Family Day is the kick off of a week-long celebration leading up to Super Bowl XXXIX. The Family Day hosted by Shands HealthCare and
the Jacksonville Super Bowl Host Committee is expected to draw several thousand participants in the day’s events along with family and friends.
“I learned about the event from a friend of mine that I went to high school with,” says Chris Duncan. “During recovery from brain cancer he was treated by Shands. Now he’s helping with this event and called me to see if I wanted to participate. Bikeskills recognized the opportunity to
reach a receptive audience and spread our message. We dedicated a lot of energy into making this a rewarding experience for the audience.”
Chris is excited because the Shands wants to use the Super Bowl as a venue to promote healthy living. When most people think of the big game they picture sitting on a sofa or a bar stool consuming food and drink. As a healthcare company Shands wants to encourage people to live their lives healthy. So this event pulls together several forms of fitness including cycling for participants and spectators.
According to Garrett Hall of Shands HealthCare, “We hope that Chris and Hannah send a message that recreational cycling as well jumping when done safely will contribute to the participants overall health and wellness. We hope that Chris and Hannah inspire young people to adopt cycling as a sport now, and continue cycling as they grow older.”
Chris has worked with Bikeskills to develop their primary message of getting people involved in lifelong sports. According to Chris, “football is great as a spectator sport, but most people stop
participating when they become adults. That is the great thing about mountain biking, you can do it your whole life. I’m excited about this venue because we get to introduce mountain biking and bike jumping to a whole new audience. Hannah and I love teaching people about the sport
and hope to turn parents and kids onto bikes.”
Hall is confident that bicycle show at the Family Day will be extremely popular. “We feel that Chris and Hannah will bring the perfect message to our event and we’re excited that they will showcase their talent and message on the national state of Super Bowl XXXIX.”
