Why do you ride?
January 18th, 2005 by Tim GrahlI started riding for two reasons. I was slowing getting the dicky-do disease and my buddy Carl, who now helps out with this site, had just bought a $100 Eddie Baur mountain bike from K-mart and wanted me to start riding with him. We have learned a lot since then and my motivation has also changed. Instead of just trying to work off the extra pounds, I feel a need ride. While I am in the saddle my mind is often cleared and things seem to line up a little better. After I am done and I am loading up my bike to go home, I get the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. A recent article from Velo News asks the question “Why ride a bicycle?“. Answers come from people all over the country and the industry. So I pose the same question to you: Why do you ride a bicycle?

I ride for the exact reason that was stated above “While I am in the saddle my mind is often cleared and things seem to line up a little better.” Thats what got me started when I was younger - I didnt think of school or tests or anything. Now that Im older it clears my mind of more bothersome problems and allows me to enjoy self powered motivation.
I started riding because Go-Peds were too expensive. Lol. But now I ride to help release tension, makes me feel good, and because I enjoy the camraderie with other folks on the trail.
It’s been my best way to lose the weight and keep it off.
I can’t remember exactly why I started riding. I was only 5 years old, and I remember that it was exciting. I loved to explore the world from a bicycle, and it made me feel good. That, and I got away from my pesky sister! So, now I ride for pretty much the same reasons, except that I don’t have to get away from my sister anymore. Now, it’s just this pesky world that needs getting away from.
I ride because it’s fun! Plus, as an added bonus, if I ride fast enough, I get free gear! Can’t beat that.
