Out of Shape Again
January 15th, 2005 by CarlSo its been about 40 days now since I’ve ridden my bike. You have no idea how this feels. My belt is a notch looser, my energy level is down, and I really, absolutely, have no good reason to go outside.
Since the middle of December I’ve been in windy, bitter Chicago trying to sell antiques on Ebay. Sure, its neat. However, with all of my gear from school packed into my ride, there was no room for the Trek.
So here’s my question. What do all of you fellow mountain bikers do during downtime to keep in shape and not go crazy? I’m not talking about Halo 2 either. Sure, we all get behind every now and then, but 40 days? I really need something to do to bridge gaps like this.
One things for sure: I miss Virginia. Even though I’m probably going to fall off my bike exhausted after 4 minutes on the trails, it’s sure gonna be nice to be back.
So…. what’s the longest you’ve gone without riding?

Dude, I am just to the west of you in Iowa, and I am hitting up the YMCa to lift weights, do non-bike cardio workouts, roller rides, and even get outside when it’s not deathly cold. Living in the Midwest you have to adapt to the weather and learn to deal with it. Check out my blog for the day by days
Definitely try to start an indoor excercise routine. I sometimes like to run during the winter… the slower you move in cold weather the less you will freeze your ass off, and running is much slower than riding. By the way, dont you have any indoor parks in your area? If you dont know the answer to that question, then you realy should investigate.
