Louis Garneau Drytex 2200 Base Layers
January 11th, 2005 by Mike
During the summer in Virginia it can be 70 degrees outside but feel like 90 with the humidity. I hate humidity. You can be outside for only 10 minutes and break out in a sweat. So I started wearing the Louis Garneau Drytex 2200 series base layers. You’re probably thinking, “base layers in the summer?” Yep they are designed to breath well and to shed the sweat from your body. When I rode with them the first time I was a little skeptical because they seemed like they were going to be too warm to wear in the summer. I was surprised when I stayed cooler than normal and I wasn’t just soaked in sweat.

I wear the sleeveless, Drytex 2200 Singlet shirt and the Drytex 2200 boxer shorts when I ride now. I usually wear sleeveless shirts so I felt very comfortable with it on. And the shorts are light and I hardly know they are on. The cool thing is that the Drytex material is rated for summer and winter so when I go out on a brisk day they help to keep me warm. Now they aren’t good for sub zero temperatures. I would say a good 40 or 50 degree day would be perfect. Anything less than that I would need sleeves and a little more layering.
The base layers have held up through a few wrecks (I rode a local trail with no back brakes a big mistake). I would definitely recommend investing in a set of base layers from Louis Garneau.
