Planet Bike Airmate Gauge

Ah, I love gadgets. The Planet Bike Airmate tire gauge is one of the most useful ones out there—a digital gauge that provides an easy way to precisely fill your tires. It does, however, take away another excuse for that crappy ride.

I put this against my valve and it gives me an exact tire pressure reading. If the tire is over inflated, like mine was the first time I used it, the gauge has a release valve that quickly lets you discharge the excess air. The Airmate reads on several air pressure scales and fits both Schrader and Presta valves. Along with the small flashlight and backlit LCD screen, it provides some great features for an “extra” tool.

On the downside, one annoying aspect of the gauge is that once it reads the pressure, it locks onto that number and requires you hold down a reset button before you can take the pressure again. So when I am using the release valve to let out some extra air, I have to take the gauge off, reset it and then retake the pressure.

Overall, I definitely think it’s worth the money if you have some extra cash for a useful tool, or if you’re obsessive enough to have to know your exact tire pressure!
